Bangalore: BJP Demands Governor's Recall

Bangalore, Oct 30 (PTI):
Buoyed by the High Court verdict upholding disqualification of its 11 rebel MLAs, the BJP today stepped up its attack on Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, demanding his immediate recall for "illegal and unconstitutional acts" if he does not step down on his own.

"The Governor of Karnataka, if he has got any respect for the Constitution and standards in public life, should quit forthwith in the backdrop of the High Court verdict," senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

Naidu said if Bhardwaj did not quit on his own, "the Centre, and the Congress, should immediately recall him if they have any respect for the Constitution and Centre-State relations."

Justice V G Sabhahit, third judge of the High Court, had yesterday upheld the disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs, after the matter was referred to him following a split verdict by a division bench on the Speaker's action.

Naidu decried the delay in taking action against the Governor, which the BJP had demanded when a party delegation met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier.

He said the Prime Minister had assured the delegation that he would look into the matter but no action had been taken, indicating support of the UPA government for "the illegal, unconstitutional and unethical acts of the Governor".

"The reference made by the court in its judgement about the letter written by the Governor to Speaker K G Bopaiah to maintain the configuration (the numerical strength of legislature groups) of the House has proved that Bhardwaj was wrong in making such a suggestion," he said.

The Governor had come under attack from the BJP for his actions following withdrawal of support to the Yeddyurappa government by the 11 rebel and five independent MLAs.
Bhardwaj had asked Yeddyurappa to face the floor test for the second time on October 22 after holding the first confidence motion carried by voice vote as unconstitutional.

Naidu questioned the timing of the "selective" IT raids conducted on BJP MLAs and some ministers while the state reeled amid a political crisis and alleged that Congress had "brazenly misused, institutions like CBI, Anti-terrorism squad, Governor and IT department to further its political interests."

"BJP has no problem in IT raids conducted on businessmen including on Reddys (mines owners of Bellary and Ministers). I am not here to take vakalat on behalf of Janardhana Reddy (Tourism Minister). But selective searches and the time chosen is objectionable," Naidu said.

"It is a political tax raid. Why similar searches were not conducted on rebel MLAs who travelled to Goa, Chennai, Kochi and Mumbai and also on leaders who paid their bills," Naidu asked.

The demand by Naidu that the Governor should be removed is totally unwarranted for. Any party should understand that people just dont like blame games. Keep focused on positive works. The more you blame others more the people dislike you. Now the court verdict has come in your favour & be happy with that. I am not supporting Governor. But one should understand that no one is perfect. Especially when our laws are capable of being interpreted in different ways these differences would emerge. At least the Governor gave u the 2nd chance to prove majority. If u keep blaming and abusing others there would not be any difference between you and oppositions who keep blaming u. So pl do not follow their way.Remember doing good work and getting people's appreciation only will be the fitting reply to all those who keep troubling you. The fast you learn this political lesson better for u.

Yes Naidu, this honest Governor doesn't fit in your Andhra Gang. He has always been a hurdle for your illegal mining, land grabing & corrupt governance. Your gimmicks will work only till you have 'puppet' Yeddy dancing to your tune. Once he is finished, you all are finished along with him. Yeddy is truly betrayed every Kannadiga's trust in him to quench his thirst for power & greed for wealth.

These corrupt Reddys and Naidus alongwith their 'Katputhli' Yeddy are playing with innocent Kannadigas. They know exactly how to divide Kannadigas on religion and achieve their goal. As Anamika has commented, one has Sun Scorched Brinjal face, Eshwarappa has open mouth like crocodile - the greed and selfishness is written on every inch of their face. God only can unite Kannadigas to drive away these evils from our beloved, once peace loving Karnataka. Jai Karnataka.

The present Governor is a unworthy person, & purely a politican. He is better kept in active politcs than serving as a Governor. Naidu has rightly spoken the truth. He is hecticly trying on behalf of JDS & Cong. to topple the ruling State Govt. but in vain.

In order to have a smooth governance, it is high time be recalled or thrown out, & replaced with a neutral person in the interest of Sate

The BJP leaders are not having any rights to tell either the Central Government or to the President to sack Government. The court decision we must respect either it is right or wrong. In many cases high court verdict changed by Supreme court. The verdict is all based on the judge and his knowledge and how he is analyzing the whole issue.

When Supreme Court gave total opposite verdict it doesn’t mean that the high court is wrong or the judge must resign. In the same way Governor gave his suggestion what he felt is good. Now coming to the point these BJP leaders must think very wisely before commenting any issues because their party MLA’s having many issue like rape, cheating, threatening and massacre cases. Are they asked them to resign or any action is taken by the BJP leaders? The answer is NO. Let the BJP leaders must shut till they are cleaning their heart, body and soul. I am not sure whether they have it or not!!!!!!

Mr. Sudhir, Bangalore, Did you forget that Governor had "instructed" the Speaker not to disqualify MLAs. With disqualification upheld by the court, it is proven that Governor did not know the constitution well. Through operation Kamala, BJP made opposition MLAs to resign from the assembly and hence did not violate constitution. Why Kumaranna did not got these MLAs resign? Well, big money was involved in all these games and issue of corruption etc. is another part of the story.
