Udupi, Nov 11: For the first time in history, ‘Tulu Appe’ (tulu mother) portrait painted by veteran artist P N Acharya, unveiled on Thursday, November 11 at the premises of Shri Shirdi Saibaba Mandir, Kodankuru here.
Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president, Tulukoota unveiled the art. He said, “P N Acharya is the first artist, who drew Tulu Appe picture and dedicated it to Tulunadu. The picture itself displays diverse culture. There are more than 8,000 people learning Tulu script (language). Most of the people, organizations and temples are encouraging to adopt Tulu script. This is a good gesture to enhance Tulu language. I wish the best to P N Acharya for his future projects.”
P N Acharya was honoured after which he said, “My dream has come true today. I had completed this art with the support of many scholars. Tulu people and Tulu language are beautiful. I collected opinions from the experts.
“In my painting, I have tried to portray the significance of Tulunadu and diverse culture. I have received overwhelming response across the state for my earlier project, the 'Koti-Chennaya' art. I have designed many other great personalities including Vishwakarma. I am confident that people will support this art too. If required, I am ready to make some changes in my art of Tulu Appe.”
State Rajyotsava awardee and folklore scholar Bannanje Babu Amin was honoured by the dignitaries on the occasion.
Raghunath Mabiyan presided over the programme.
Mahabal Kundar, administrative committee member of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir Kodankoor Raghunatha Kotian, and Yogish Acharya were present.
Ramesh Bangera, president, Kodankoor Mudabettu Billava Sangha, Chethan Narvekar and businessman Alevoor Yogish Acharya were present.
