Kaup, Nov 13: "We did not say that Savarkar was not a freedom fighter. Like Savarkar, thousands of people went to the prison. Savarkar, when in prison, had written 10 apology letters to the British government seeking mercy," said MLA U T Khader.

He was speaking during Block Congress Minority Cell's representatives and Rural Minority Cell's president’s oath taking ceremony in Kaup here on Saturday November 13.

"Those who sacrificed their life in the Andaman prison for the nation’s freedom are called patriots or the one who had apologised to the British government and sought release?” he questioned.

“Should we glorify the one who coordinated with the British or pay tribute to those who sacrificed their life by fighting against the British? Congress workers should debate raising this point,” he said.

Khader also dared the BJP government to realise the concept of ‘Akanda Bharath’ instead of unnecessarily misleading the youth. He also alleged that the BJP leaders speak different tones when in power and not in power.

He further slammed SDPI and MIM political parties and asked the Congress workers not to change their mindset on sentimental issues. He also alleged that RSS-BJP is utilizing SDPI and MIM. “Those sacrificing the community on sentimental issues are a threat to the Congress. The Congress works under the constitutional principles of Dr BR Ambedkar,” he said.
