Beltangady: Person washed away by artificial floods rescued by volunteers

Beltangady, Nov 15: A person who was being washed away by the force of artificial floods at Periyashanti near Kokkada was rescued by the volunteers of Sri Dharmasthala Shaurya team. The incident happened on Sunday November 14.

A person from Nidle was going to Nidle via Periyashanti on his scooter on Sunday evening.

When he was on his way, heavy rain pounded the area, giving rise to artificial flood on the road. The force of water was dragging away him along with his scooter towards the gorge and he was unable to stop the slide. Volunteers of the said team who were passing by that spot immediately jumped into action and rescued the person along with his vehicle.

The region has been getting heavy rain right from Sunday afternoon.

    It is necessary to identify and mark the possible artificial flood area which is a sudden and sometimes unexpected hazard. This is common phenomenon in valleys and dangerous in so called WADIS in gulf.
