Mangaluru, Nov 16: The state high court, which has quashed an order issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences that had denied the opportunity for a student who had opted to join the dental course instead of engineering which she had opted earlier, to appear for the dental course examination. The high court held that she is eligible for the dental course.

A girl student pursuing dental course through a private college here, had become eligible for engineering course after her second PU examination through the common entrance test. She later decided to pursue dental course and appeared for National Eligibility Entrance Test. She became eligible for the dental course and registered herself in the college where she attended classes. RGUHS which raised objections, said that having been registered for engineering course, she is bound to pursue that course alone, and she is not eligible to get the hall ticket for the dental examination. Frustrated, the girl student approached the high court.

A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anant Hegde, after hearing arguments from both the sides, passed an interim order on Monday November 15. It said that the girl student can appear for the first semester examination starting on November 16. It also allowed the university to publish the previous results.

High court advocate Raveendra Kamath, had placed arguments on behalf of the petitioner.
