Mangaluru, Nov 16: The farmers growing paddy, particularly those whose standing crops were mechanically harvested, are facing huge loss as both paddy and the hay are destroyed by the rain. Because of rain, ripened areca nuts have fallen to the ground and washed away by the rainwater. Whatever remains is getting rotten under rainwater.

As there is a shortage of sun rays, many farmers are opting to create solar cells. Several farmers from Puttur area have undertaken the initiative to spend lacs of rupees for constructing solar cells. Farmers are planning to build these cells by using tarpaulin sheets. But the cells cost a minimum of about two lac rupees and the cost is beyond the reach of small farmers. The farmers, who were fed up with the rotting disease and fungus problems in the past have now been hit by untimely rain.

The local representatives and officials of agriculture and horticulture departments need to undertake survey and help the farmers to get government compensation.
