Udupi, November 17: The protests by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike opposing irregularities in dialysis centres in 23 districts in the state have reached the second day. The activists in Udupi protested in a unique way by polishing shoes today.

Vedike district president Ansar Ahmed said that nearly 122 dialysis units in the state are entrusted to private parties now which do not function. “Nearly four thousand benefit from them.

There are ten dialysis machines in Udupi out of which five are already out of order. As the government does not have money in its treasury, we will polish shoes till this evening and hand over the money collected from it to the government. If the government has shame and prestige, it should solve the problems by this evening. If not, two of our activists will cut their hair from their heads and hand it over to the government tomorrow,” he said.

“Staff salaries are pending and there is scarcity of chemicals in 122 dialysis units of 23 districts. Therefore, people coming for dialysis are facing severe hardships.”
