Bantwal, Nov 18: Relating to a case in which a former deputy chief postmaster allegedly cheated the department to the extent of Rs 80,000 when he was working at Manchi sub post office, a case against the accused was registered in the rural police station here.

Manchi deputy postmaster, Vrushabhendra Hebbar, has been charged with cheating the department to the extent of Rs 80,000. It is said that he showed in the accounts submitted to the department that he had remitted money to three branch post offices for the daily disbursements. However, it was found that no such money was sent to these post offices.

He had shown to have sent Rs 30,000 to Ira sub post office on September 5, Rs 20,000 to Salethur sub post office on September 7, and Rs 30,000 to Kulalu branch post office on September 10. In reality, these amounts were never sent, it is learnt.

On the basis of complaint made by Bantwal Jodumarga post office official, Lokanath M, a case was registered in Bantwal rural police station and an investigation has been launched.
