Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 19: For the legislative council election from local bodies constituency in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, two candidates have to be elected. The election will be held on December 10. While the BJP candidate will most likely be minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, the Congress is yet to finalize the name of its candidate.

Eleven persons had filed applications, evincing their interest to fight the election as a Congress candidate. In an unexpected development, another name was added to the list at the last minute. This has changed political equations and the matter is now before the party high command at New Delhi.

November 23 is the last date for filing of nominations. The Congress is likely to announce the name of its candidate on Sunday night or Monday. The deputy commissioner of the district, who happens to be the returning officer, said that on November 18, the third day for filing of nominations, no one came forward to file nomination.
