Kundapur, Nov 20: The Manmaha chariot festival of historic Uppunda Durgaparameshwari temple was celebrated here on November 20. The celebrations continued despite heavy rains.

Uppunda Chariot festival is also called Uppunda Kodi Habba. It is a big festival of Byndoor. Though the festival lost its lustre last year, it was ready for the celebrations observing Covid protocol this year. The unexpected rain was a setback for the celebrations but the religious rituals were held without problems.

Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, former MLA K Gopala Poojary, temple in charge executive officer Ganesh Gowda, management officer and Byndoor tahsildar Shobhalaxmi H S, temple tantri, priests, staff and villagers were present. The temple tantri performed the rituals.

The festival was set in motion after flag hoisting on November 15 itself. Meals were served in the afternoon on November 20. Choornotsava will be held on November 21. The flag hoisting and city celebrations will be held on November 22.
