Udup, Nov 24: A woman, who happens to be senior citizen, had jumped into a well to end her life as she felt that no one cares for in this world. She was rescued. Social worker, Vishu Shetty Ambalpady, took her into his care and sheltered her in the Gangotri Ashram for senior citizens at Bailoor, Karkala taluk.

The distressed woman happens to be Kushala Shetty (78). She is a native of Udupi district. She says that she hails from a well-known family. She explained that having lost her husband and without any children to take care of her, she felt that ending her life was a better option than living on the streets and depending on the alms given by others. Vishu Shetty ensured that she got counselling at Sakhi One Stop Centre. Poornima and Ranjith of senior citizens' helpline here, helped with legal procedures.

Relatives of the woman, if any, who are willing to help out can contact Udupi senior citizens helpline No. 0820-2526394.
