Udupi, Dec 6: Renowned violin artiste Vasanthi Ram Bhat (82) passed away at her residence at Ambalpady in the city on Sunday December 5.
Vasanthi was teaching violin to her disciple Kamboji Raga, when she collapsed suddenly. Though she was rushed to the nearby hospital, she breathed her last on the way.
Vasanthi Bhat was giving concerts even now. On Friday evening she accompanied Bhamini Bhat Puttur at the 43rd Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangitosava – 2021 which was held at Raveendra Mantap of MGM College.
Vidushi Vasanthi was the wife of former principal of MGM college Prof Ram Bhat. She was actively involved in the Ragadhana organization. She has trained hundreds of students on violin.
Vasanthi is survived by son ophthalmologist Dr Sathish, daughter Vinaya, who is a computer engineer and son Devesh Bhat, Mridanga Vidwan.
Pidlu Krishnaraya, who was grandfather of Vasanthi, was her music teacher. She used to organize programmes continuously in the name of her teacher. She was a tennis champion too.
Vasanthi used to accompany Prapancham Sitaram, R K Padmanabha, Ludwig Pesch and Kadri Gopanath on violin during concerts.
