Mandya, Dec 6: "I had announced that I would resign if the BJP got majority in the Lok sabha election. However, Narendra Modi convinced me not to resign," said JD(S) national president, H D Deve Gowda.

Speaking at a press conference held at Srirangapatna on Sunday December 5, he said that after the BJP bagged majority, Modi had written to him inviting him to Delhi. "When I met Modi, I told him that I had decided to resign as per the declaration previously made by me. But Modi said these promises and statements keep happening in politics and urged me not to take it seriously," he clarified.

Gowda said that people who were in his close proximity did not tolerate his political growth. "A book on me is being released shortly. It contains details of my contributions to the country’s growth. When I resigned as PM, those who were with me were sitting on the dais. None of them was present when I came out after resigning. I cannot forget such incidents," he said.

He said that he has closely observed the changes when Modi discharged duties in two capacities. "People who criticise me for the way I deal with Modi, have to see what I had said in the Lok Sabha about the Godhra carnage," he said.
