Bantwal, Dec 6: In a thrilling incident that occurred on Sunday, December 5 at Hokkadigoli Kambala in the taluk, a rider who was chasing his buffaloes fell into the Kambala field when the finish line was 20 meters away but did not give up his grip on the rope and his buffaloes dragged him and won the race.

The video of the incident that happened at the historically famous Veera-Vikramakere Jodu Kambala, organized by Hokkadigoli Mahishamardini Kambala committee, on the border area of Eliyanalugodu of Bantwal taluk and Arambodi taluk of Beltangady, has gone viral on social media.

Akash Bhandary, resident of Udupi Hirebettu, was the rider, who was chasing the buffaloes owned by Biliyoor Perne Vishnumoorthi Ganapa Bhandary during the pre-quarter final race of Hagga Kiriya section. When ¾ part of the distance was over, Akash suddenly fell into the Kambala field. However, he held on to the rope and the buffaloes pulled him till the finish line and won the race. His bravery of not letting the rope though he fell upside down for a distance of around 20 meters made him and his buffaloes the winners.

Kambala fans have whole-heartedly appreciated the grit and courage shown by Akash in the race and the video of the same is making waves on social media.
