Mangaluru: Vaccination status of parents - Children to turn informers

Mangaluru, Dec 6: As per the fresh instruction parents of the students should get vaccinated with both the doses of the vaccine. Towards this end, a special programme of using the students as informants is being launched in Dakshina Kannada district.

The major aim of this initiative is to increase the progress in vaccination against the pandemic in Dakshina Kannada district.

In Dakshina Kannada district, over 90 percent of people have availed of the first dose. However, in the administration of the second dose, there has not been too much progress because of lack of enthusiasm among the general public. In the meantime, coronavirus infection has been slowly rising and the Omicron scare has spread everywhere. The government wants to utilise the services of the students to increase the speed of the vaccinations.

When the student's right from primary schools to colleges, attend the classes, they are given an information sheet. The information has to be filled and given to respective teachers. From there, tithe sheets will reach the health departments concerned.

At a time when the health department has been campaigning and asking the people to get second doses, because of Omicron scare, 1,77,347 have got themselves vaccinated within a week. A total of 1,77,347 got vaccinated within a week because of Omicron scare. In Dakshina Kannada, 2,82 lac people were vaccinated in a week. As many as 27,762 of them got the first dose while the remaining 2.54 lac got the second dose. In Udupi, 74.42 percent people have got second dose while 94.4 percent had got first dose vaccine.

Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief election officer, Dr Kumar said that information will be collected about the status of the vaccination from the children. "We will create awareness and inspire parents who are yet to be vaccinated," he added.
