Kadaba, Dec 7: A bank customer found that out of the ornaments pledged by her to the bank as security for loan raised, an ear ornament had gone missing. This issue was brought to the notice of the bank and its higher officials. As there was no positive response, a police complaint was filed with the police. After the police complaint was filed, the bank officials who got alert returned the missing ear ornament with some reasoning and explanation.

The Kadaba branch of Canara Bank (previously Syndicate) has been accused of not serving the customers properly. Because of the present faux paus, its reputation has been dented further.

Pushpalata from Madyadka in Kodimbala village, in her complaint made in Kadaba police station, said that on June 1, 2020, she had raised loan of Rs 32,000 by pledging some ornaments in Canara Bank Kadaba branch which included an ear stud. When the bank issued a card for having pledged gold, there was no mention of either the quantity or weight of gold pledged. After a year, to renew the loan, she said she went to Canara Bank. "The bank staff brought out the ornaments from the locker for my perusal and I found that an ear stud was missing. When she approached the bank manager, he asked me to speak in Hindi as he does not know the local language," the lady explained..

When she spoke to him with the help of another person, the manager argued that the gold had not gone missing, even though the slip showed that one more ornament was pledged. She said she contacted the Mangaluru regional office of the bank but they reiterated what the manager said. She therefore complained to Kadaba police station on December 2.

Kadaba police sub-inspector called Pushpalata to the station on December 6. When she along with her son, Rajesh, went to the police station, the bank officials told her that her gold ornament was found and asked her to come to the branch. The ornament was returned.

Divisional manager of the bank, Praveen, said that the ear stud had been found by the cleaning staff in the past and the then manager had kept it in another locker as he could not find out to which loan it belonged, with a slip explaining the circumstances. That manager was transferred. "When the missing gold was discussed with staff, the staff who previously worked here informed us that an ornament had been kept separately in the locker. It was found to be belonging to Pushpalata and therefore was returned through the police," he stated.
