Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Bharath Academy in association with Special Parents Support Group will organise a community outreach programme, 'A Special Christmas Party 2021' on December 26 from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at The Bharath Academy, Blueberry Hills, Yeyyadi Road here. The event will be a programme for children with special needs.

Meena Noronha, the founder of Special Parents Support Group and the parent of a child with special needs herself, says, “Special Parents Support Group was formed to bring together families with similar struggles facing similar challenges and form a network of support to one another. Another purpose of this support group is to bring joy, love, respect and laughter into special lives.

“Mangaluru is a place where we need to bring these special ones into the forefront and give them equal opportunities be in schools, centers, events, workplaces or society.

“There is societal, emotional, mental and financial pressure on all special parents. They hesitate to bring out their special ones in order to avoid ridicule, face difficulties and non-acceptance by society. Hence a support system helps them in providing strength and support to go through this journey.

“We hope to have more such events where special needs children can come together and enjoy themselves and the parents of the special ones for a bond with one another and have a secure support system in Mangaluru.

“Mangaluru is a place where we need more opportunities to bring our special ones and integrate them into society. This is our first event in association with The Bharat Academy wherein we are trying to bring some joy and fun into special lives.

“We are also planning to form a buddy programme wherein each of our special child will get a buddy with whom they can have some precious moments together. This is the first step in forming an inclusive community in Mangaluru. Let us all work together in making Mangaluru an inclusive society,” she says.
