Kasargod: Lorry plunges into gorge - Four killed, five injured

Kasargod, Dec 24: In a tragic accident which happened near Panathur here, a lorry that was loaded with timber went out of control of its driver and jumped into a roadside gorge. In this incident, four persons were killed, and five suffered serious injuries.

Mohanan, Narayanan, Babu and Sundar from Kundupuram in Rajapuram Panathur were killed in the unfortunate accident. The lorry fell down at Rajapuram Panathur Pariyara. Five persons who were stuck under the heavy load of timber were rescued and admitted into the Kanhangad district hospital.

Kanhangad RDO Meghashree, firemen, as well as police personnel and the locals rushed to the spot and helped in rescue. When the accident happened at 4 pm on Thursday, there were nine people inside the lorry. The spot where the current accident happened is the same where seven persons had died in a similar accident in January this year. In that incident, a bus carrying a marriage party from Puttur had fallen into the gorge and seven had lost their lives.
