Mangaluru, Dec 24: Consumers of a finance company that reportedly has cheated the consumers by not repaying their deposits and interest, held a protest at the Clock Tower in the city on Thursday December 23.

The concern had been founded in the city. It had offered to pay high rates of interest to depositors. It had also opened its branches in various places including Bengaluru, Hubballi and even some other states. It had appointed agents in Karnataka and Kasargod to canvass for deposits. In 2014, it closed its business without returning the money of the consumers.

Then the police took up the case and arrested the accused. But the money of the consumers remains unpaid. The government later entrusted the case to the criminal investigation department. Even though the officials collected original documents from the consumers, no information has been received either by the consumers or their organization during the last seven years. The accused are out on bail. Even though they are attending court, the court and the government have so far neither recorded their statements nor called for affidavits. The company has not paid the money due to its agents and consumers, the protestors said.

The protestors submitted a memorandum urging to force the concern to repay money to those who are cheated, to additional deputy commissioner Channabasappa, and city police commissioner Shashi Kumar.

Yogeesh Shetty Jeppu of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike, office bearers Jyotika Jain, Mohan Mendon and Harish Shetty Shaktinagar were present.

Prashanth Bhat welcomed. Anand Ameen Adyar compered the programme.
