Udupi, Dec 25: Urban development minister B A Basavaraja, said that the issue of providing Rs 330 crore to Udupi city to undertake underground drainage (UGD) works will be discussed with the chief minister (CM) and further action will be taken thereafter.

He was responding to a question raised by K Raghupati Bhat of the BJP during the question hour. He said that an estimate for Rs 330 crore to develop the project has been prepared and sent to the government for approval. He explained that the project will be discussed with the CM and a suitable decision will be taken soon based on the av availability of finances.

The minister stated that during his visit to Udupi district, the MLA had escorted him to different places and during this trip, noticed that the underground drainage system was in a bad shape.

Raghupati Bhat, speaking on the occasion, said that the underground drainage system here, which was built in 2009, is in a bad shape. He noted that even though Indrani rivulet is flowing inside the city, its water is unfit for use. He noted that the quality of sewage treatment plant too is very bad. He sought early permission for the estimate of Rs 330 crore to develop the underground drainage system.
