Mangaluru: Kotekar town panchayat elections – Slow turnout of voters

Mangaluru, Dec 27: Voter turnout was slow in the Kotekar town panchayat elections that is being held on Monday December 27.

Polling is being held in 18 polling booths for the 17 wards in the panchayat.

Voting is taking place in Kotekar Panchayat office for wards 1 and 2, at Madur government school for wards 2 and 3, at government higher primary school Bagambila for wards 5 and 6, government high school Kotekar for wards 7 and 8, government primary school Paneer for wards 11 and 11A, Kanachur educational institution for ward 12, government junior primary school Paneer for ward 13, Markaz Arabic school Ajjinadka for wards 14 and 15 and Ajjinadka higher primary school for wards 16 and 17.

Students of Kerala origin studying in private colleges of the town are added to the electoral roll. Police presence is heavy in polling booths 5 and 6. Villagers have warned of obstructing students of Kerala if they arrive to cast their votes. Tahsildar had visited the polling booth on Sunday due to its sensitive nature.
