Puttur, Dec 29: Locals have accused that fake cashew nut made of chemicals is being sold at Shiradi reserve forest under the limits of Uppinangady zone forest limits of Shiradi panchayat. Forest department has warned not to sell any kind of things in this area.

Two to three youths were selling cashew nut packs at lower rates by the side of Shiradi road. When the locals checked these cashew nuts were not natural but made artificially with chemicals. It contained little cashew, maida and some essence and was put in small machine moulds which resembled natural cashew nut.

Poisonous chemical was being used to prevent Maida from getting spoilt. Locals say that this is extremely harmful for the health. This produce is being sold mainly to tourists from regions of Mysuru and Bengaluru who visit Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya for pilgrimage.

As the concern is being spread in the area, the fake cashew nut sellers have escaped from the spot.
