Udupi, Dec 30: Road repair work is in full gear in the city for Paryaya. Leader of opposition Ramesh Kanchan said that the work that is being done is of low standard.

MLA Raghupati Bhat asked the concerned municipality officials to inspect the same. Already a proposal for Rs 16 crore is sent for the purpose.

This time around there will be no shortage of water. Still Bhat advised the authorities to lift water from Shiroor Dam.

Unauthorised auto rickshaw parking places have come up in the city. This needs to be looked into. This complaint was raised by Municipal councillors Prabhakar Poojary and Girish Kanchan.

Councillor Vijaya Kodavoor accused the municipality of not collecting money from commercial buildings after Covid onset. MLA Bhat said that the municipality is there to serve people and not generate income. He also said that after Covid, the municipality has to have some concern on vendors and hawkers.

Bhat said that those who have a single layout can build a floor above as the rules are relaxed now. The new plan has to be attached with the old file and sent to technical approval. There is no need to convert agricultural land. More than 2000 files are pending for approval and this will be done soon.

Councillor Vijaya Kodavoor urged the municipality to inform around 400 differently abled persons about the facilities given by the government. For this he said to recruit three people and give them an honorary amount from the department. MLA Bhat said that the municipality has the right to give five percent of the grant. Rs 6,000 is given to differently abled people. He instructed the president of the municipality to take this matter immediately.

Commissioner Uday Kumar, president Sumitra Nayak and vice president Laxmi Manju were present.
