Mangaluru: Road to be named after Padma Shri Hajabba, proposal moved in MCC meeting

Mangaluru, Dec 31: The road from the roundabout near SBI under the limits of MCC till that of Rao and Rao Circle will be named as ‘Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba Road’. A decision in this regard was made in the city corporation meeting that was held on Thursday.

In addition, the road from Bolar Ward to Morgans Gate will be named as Sri Bhikshu Laxmananda Swamiji Road. The proposals will be sent to the standing committee of MCC as per protocol.

Development of Pumpwell-Padil road will be undertaken under the Smart City project. Decision was taken to provide additional Rs 25 lac to the development of all 60 wards.

Ward committees will be formed in all wards of the corporation. The operation of removal of unauthorised petty shops and footpath vendors was welcomed by both ruling and opposition party members. Abdul Ravoof of Congress said that it is not right to break the push carts into two pieces.

Verbal argument ensued between members of ruling party and opposition over the statement given by A C Vinayaraj of opposition party over the development of Ladies’ Club. The ruling party accused Vinayaraj of using derogatory words against women.

Members of MCC drew the attention of the ruling party towards the irregular supply of drinking water in the city. Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said that Jackwell repair has been taking place for some time and that is why there is interruption in supply.
