Udupi, Jan 3: District Covid-19 vaccination drive of children aged between 15 to 18 was launched at Nittur High school, Udupi here on Monday, January 3.

Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the formal stage function.

He was speaking on the occasion and said, “We all suffered due to Covid -19 since 2020, the virus is taking different forms, but India has stood strongly against it. After Covid life-style has been changed.

"Everyone should wear a mask, maintain social distance and take vaccination are the main things to keep us away from virus. Udupi is now under control in spreading numbers. People are showing ignorance by wearing masks. This should not happen. Prime Minister Modi led government has taken one step forward in the vaccination drive. Hence, the number of comorbidity, mortality rate was very less compared to other advanced countries. We were all thankful to our scientists. 

"The vaccination drive is handled systematically by the government. The health warriors have worked as collectively as a team in Covid management and vaccination," he said. 

Deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao said, “The public participation is important to achieve 100 percent vaccination. The district achieved 96.29 percent in the first dose and 84.14 percent in the second dose. The panchasutras should always remember that they are wearing mask, social distance, hand wash, test and vaccination. If these are followed strictly by the people, we can manage successfully. There are 53,555 children recognized aged between 15-18 years. The diatrict administration is planning to achieve vaccination in 4 days."

Raghavendra and Deekshith received the first and second shots.

DHO Dr Nagabhushan Udupa delivered a keynote address and extended welcome to the gathering.

Dr Naveen Bhat Y, CEO, zilla panchayat Udupi, Malleshappa, deputy director, Public Education department, Maruthi, deputy director, PU education department, Subrahmanya Sherigar, Anusuya, headmistress, Nittur High School, Giridhar Acharya, Karamballi, and others were present.

    Not many vaccination centres for 15+ Children. Nearest vaccination centre is Manipal UPHC, which is small place, not clean and neat. Children from outside and presently in manipal-udupi finding it difficult. Details of vaccination centres with contact number not mentioned properly.
