Udupi: Youth Congress secretary Dion D’Souza slams state govt over weekend curfew

Media Release

Udupi, Jan 9: Youth Congress secretary Dion D’Souza said that the BJP government of Karnataka has proved to the people of the state that this is not a weekend curfew to handle the increasing COVID cases but to protect them politically at the cost of a common man.

In a media release, he said, “The BJP government has reached its end stage. It has tried all the possible ways to keep it politically safe, but this time they cross limits. Earlier they created communal disharmony, now they step into a situation wherein they are ready to bring damage the livelihood of a common man for the reason of their political stability in order to stop the Congress led Mekedatu Padayatra.

“When wearing masks and maintaining social distancing can help stop spread of Covid, why this weekend curfew? And what is wrong in fighting for the rights of people of Karnataka?

“In the near future, if the government continues to implement such poor strategies, COVID might no more be the reason for the health concern of the people, but the critical financial situation of a common man will surely be the reason.

“In these hours of implementation of the weekend curfew, the government has proved to the people that this is nothing but a situation of lack of potential in handling the rising Covid cases even after more than 2 years of experience with the same.

“The government once again forgets that, in the state of Karnataka there also exists a majority of people who would like to have a peaceful living with a good governance for their care and support.

“The situation in Karnataka today is a ‘Curfew of Injustice’. People have now started to have a doubt if whether the government actually takes health and medical experts’ advice or is it just that they implement anything in the way they want.

“The kind of weekend curfew that the government has implemented today is a gimic. The government has begun to express implementations in a manner wherein the COVID virus has met the cabinet and informed that they would attack on the population of Karnataka during the first two weekends of January."

“There are a number of issues that people are facing today, keeping aside all, the government is only busy with its fight to keep in power. It seems to be like the government is absolutely not concerned of its citizens,” he stated in the release.
