Udupi: Mekedatu padayatra – Let high court intervene, stop march, urges district JD(S)

Udupi, Jan 11: District president of JD(S) Yogish Shetty said that both BJP government and opposition Congress are showing irresponsible attitude with regards to Mekedatu padayatra. The high court should intervene voluntarily and take suitable action, he said.

Yogish Shetty was speaking at the press club on Tuesday, January 11. He further said, “The Mekdatu foot march of Congress is just a political gimmick. It is playing with Covid protocol and violating the prohibitory orders of the local administration.

“Instead of helping the people during this time of pandemic, the Congress leaders are making the situation worse. The people of this state have not given much importance to regional parties. That is why we are facing more water problems from Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Both the national parties did not try whole heartedly when they were in power to resolve the water crisis.

“Night curfew and Weekend curfews are limited only to the poorer section of the society. It is not applicable to both national parties. The people of Karnataka are taking a note of this. If Congress does not give up the padayatra and BJP government does not take any action on Congress, JD(S) will probably file a case in high court in this connection.

“BJP state government should announce financial package to labourers who are suffering due to lockdown.

“All preparations are done for the Udupi Paryaya to be celebrated in grand style on January 17 and 18. No attempt should be made to put any obstacles in this religious traditional celebration in the name of Covid rules. At present the infection rate of Covid is less in the district. State BJP government should allow local administration to take action in this regard,” he said.

District JD(S) working president Vasudeva Rao, chief secretary Jayarama Acharya, Rakshath Shetty, Gopal Athradi, Balakrishna Acharya and Gangadhar Birti were present.
