Bengaluru, Jan 12: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai virtually participated in the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the banquet hall of Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday.

The State Higher Education Department, Collegiate and Technical Education Department and Youth Empowerment as well as Sports Departments had jointly organised National Youth Week to mark the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanada.

Higher Education and Skill Development Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who participated in the inaugural Ceremony of ‘Be Good,Do Good - Statewide Youth Campaign-2022’ on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary organized by Samartha Bharata in association with Bengaluru City University, said the National Education Policy being implemented in the country was in accordance with the aspirations of Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Vivekananda strongly believed that good education was the key to a bright future of the youth and would help in empowering the society. The NEP is aimed at equipping the youth with new skills and knowledge and also helps in the digital revolution, the minister said.

In the present age of globalization and increasing privatization, the minister said it was important that the younger generation must be adept at digital and other knowledge sectors so as to become self-reliant and work for the growth and development of the country.

Dr Narayan paid homage to Swami Vivekananda by garlanding his statue and picture.
