Bengaluru, Jan 15: The state high court imposed two months jail term and fine of Rs 2,000 for hosting several fake cases against Wipro company founder Azim Premji and his trust. The advocates had sought detailed investigation against Premji and his trust, accusing them of irregularities. Advocates R Subramani and P Sadananda were ordered to undergo jail terms. They represented a non-government organization, India Awake for Transparency.

A division bench of the high court with senior judge, Justice B Veerappa and Justice K S Hemalekha, which heard the contempt of court petitions filed by Wipro and Azim Premji along with others, passed the said order on Friday January 14. These advocates have also been restrained from registering any cases against either Azim Premji or Wipro Ltd henceforth.

After examining all the issues, a single judge bench of the high court had levied fine on the advocates. In its 110-page detailed order, the bench said that the charge of contempt of court levelled against the two has been proved under section 2(3) of the Contempt of Court Act. It said that there is no reason for dropping the charge of contempt of court, the bench said. If the advocates fail to pay the fine, they will remain behind the bars for one more month, the bench said.

After the sentence was announced, the accused sought time to go on an appeal to the Supreme Court. Considering This plea, the bench kept the order in abeyance for four weeks.
