Kundapur, Jan 29: Slab that was put in the middle of the roads during Saukuru irrigation project work collapsed and a mini tipper truck got damaged on January 28 at Durganagar of Bolkatte near Saukuru which falls under the limits of Gulvadi gram panchayat.

Cement patchwork in the form of slab was placed near the road from Durganagar. This road is convenient to reach places like Saukuru, Gulvadi, Kandloor, Mavinakatte and Neralakatte. A mini tipper owned by Manoj was transporting building construction material from Jadkal to Basrur on the morning of Friday. It got damaged as the road further collapsed when the tipper was on its way. The rear portion of the truck including tipper blade and joint is damaged and the loss is estimated to be Rs 20000. Locals and vehicle riders expressed dissent over the issue after the incident.

Manoj, owner of the damaged tipper truck said, “Four months ago, I purchased this truck in order to earn livelihood. Due to Covid, I am not getting proper business also. Now due to the irresponsibility of the road construction contractor, I have incurred damage to my vehicle. The concerned officials should repair the road and also give me compensation for the loss I have incurred.”

President of Gulvadi gram panchayat Sudesh Kumar Shetty, member Chandra Poojary, president of Gulvadi villagers’ welfare forum Prakashchandra Shetty Saukuru, I K Ibrahim, Sampath, Darshan Achar, Subramanya Achar and Raju Poojary visited the spot.
