Kundapur, Feb 3: The Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) staged a protest at Shastri Circle here on Thursday, February 3 against the Raichur judge for allegedly removing the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar during the Republic Day celebrations.

DSS state committee member Jayan Malpe, speaking on the occasion, said, "During the Republic Day celebration, great leaders like Dr Ambedkar and Gandhiji are being insulted by stating that the flag will be hoisted only if the photos are removed. The judge who has accepted the Constitution has not only insulted Dalits but also the nation. The judge must be arrested and suspended from the service."

He further said, "His property must be seized. In this regard, a nationwide protest will be organized. It is really painful and shameful that when the national leaders are insulted, the chief minister and law minister are silent."

A protest march was held from the bus stand to Shastri Circle and the judge's effigy burnt.

DSS district convener Manjunath Giliyar, Vasudev Muddoor, advocate Ilyas Navunda, Suresh Barkoor, Prabhakar V, Suresh Hakladi, DSS taluk convener Raju Bettinamane and others were present.
