Mangaluru, Feb 5: Regarding the Hijab row, district in-charge V Sunil Kumar said, “No one had opposed when students came up to the college wearing Hijab. Even today, if the students wear hijab up to the college then remove it, no one will oppose.”

He was speaking at the press club on Saturday February 5.

He further said, “It is wrong to be adamant to wear Hijab in classrooms in order to create a controversy. Uniform is a tradition of the government schools and colleges which everyone needs to follow.

“The same community does not have money to pay fees, but has money to move the court. So it is clear that there is someone behind all this. More than 50,000-60,000 people tweet in favour of these issues. It is not about Hijab, but to create controversy. This is conspiracy and hijab is part of the toolkit.

“Those speaking about personal freedom, should first allow women to enter mosques. Personal freedom should not be limited only to school and college campuses. Their women should be allowed inside the mosque.

“Saffron shawl is the reaction for the action over Hijab. I defend the move from the principal and there is nothing wrong in it. Our country has been called a Hindu Rashtra and it is impossible to make it a Taliban country. No one speaks when Hijab is banned in other countries. Here they raise voice over it. They should respect this country’s law,” he said.

Over taking charge as the district in-charge, he said, “Since 1994, I have sincerely worked for Bajrang Dal, BJP Yuva Morcha and for the BJP. The party has recognised my work and given the responsibility. Till today, I have not lobbied for the post. I have not prepared any bio data or visiting card. Dakshina Kannada district has its own challenges and I am ready to face it as people have a lot of expectations from me. I will have nearly 11 months in my tenure and will work for the overall development of the district. On February 11, I will conduct KDP meeting. After becoming the district in-charge minister, I have changed my timetable where two days in a week, I will be in Mangaluru.

“As of now, there is no proposal for increasing price on usage of electricity. Our government is working on including Tulu to the Eighth Schedule of the constitution.

“Before the end of this month, I will conduct Revenue mela and also find ways to resolve sand issue in the district,” he said.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, mayor Premananda Shetty, district BJP president Sudarshan Moodbidri, and District Working Journalists’ Union president Srinivas Nayak Indaje were present.
