Bengaluru, Feb 8: In less than 24 hours after being rebuked by Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayana for the unscientific road humps with no warning signs or caution stripes in the busy Malleswaram locality in Bengaluru on Monday morning and a warning of filing a criminal case, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike engineers have ‘’performed’’ a miracle of levelling the road humps besides installing rumblers with white paint stripes.
Dr Narayan, who represents the Malleswaram assembly constituency, was visibly annoyed at the unscientific road humps on the 15 th Cross Road of Margosa Road near the traffic signal next to the popular eatery Veena Stores and had threatened to lodge criminal complaints against the BBMP officials for negligence if the situation was not immediately rectified.
The road hump has been laid on the road without any cautionary white paint stripes or radium indicators leading to accidents in the night. It is atrocious that no action has been taken despite several accidents taking place at the stop and the BBMP officials have escaped their responsibility by not bothering to visit the spot, he said warning that action will be taken if the situation was not set right immediately.
When BBMP officials, who had accompanied the minister during the inspection, tried to explain, Dr Narayan was livid with anger. ``The road has been asphalted recently. It is the duty and responsibility of the engineers to ensure that the road humps were placed scientifically and proper white paint stripes must be given to alert the drivers at night. This cannot go on. The officials must inspect the roads in the entire constituency,’’ he cautioned.
BBMP’s Malleswaram area engineer Praveen, Malleswaram Executive Engineer Jayashankar, Assistant Engineer Balaji were present during Dr Narayan’s inspection. The stern warning and tongue lashing by the minister has worked wonders with the BBMP engineers rectifying road humps at 5 different places and also white topping them overnight. In addition to rectifying the road humps, the BBMP engineers have also ensured that rumblers have been placed before the white topped road humps.
Dr Narayan has appreciated the quick response and rectification work done by the BBMP engineers overnight. The inspection by the minister and quick response by the BBMP officials has been warmly appreciated by the public with demands that similar action was necessary to correct the potholes and road humps all over the city.
