Bengaluru, Mar 7: Nano Urea, the fertilizer based on nano-technology has been tested in all the universities and found to be successful, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai, stated here on Monday, March 7.
Speaking after inaugurating the 12the edition of the “Bengaluru India Nano” summit, themed on “Nano Tech for Sustainable Future”, a flagship 3-day event of the State Government, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to make Nano Urea available for farmers and that it would become a reality in the near future.
Nano-technology will help the management of energy in an efficient manner at the tiniest level (nano-level).
The efficient energy management at the smallest level is also expected to bring about sustainability, he said.
Bengaluru, hailed as the country’s knowledge capital with 180 R & D institutes (Including Public & Private,) has a very congenial ecosystem to incubate the growth of nanotechnology, he said.
The synergy between the R & D institutes, educational institutions and students will help to translate lab findings to marketable products, the Chief Minster said.
State to have Nano-Tech Policy
Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education, Electronics, IT/BT, and S&T, said Karnataka, which has come out with many sector-specific policies, will also carve out a nano-technology policy.
Nano-technology has encompassed all the vital areas such as water, health, energy, agriculture and is set to become a 300 billion dollar economy in nanotechnology in the next five years, he said.
Bharat Ratna awardee Scientist Prof C N R Rao, who has been a mentor for taking forward nano-technology in the state and Honorary Chairperson of State Visionary Group for Nano-technology, presided over through virtual participation.
Prof Rao’s message on the occasion was read out by Prof G U Kulakarni of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). Indumati Rao, wife of Prof C N R Rao, also attended the summit virtually.
Prof Navakanta Bhat, Chairman, State Vision Group for Nano-Technology said the applications of nano-technology enabling manufacturing of products at nano ranges will bring in disruptive changes in the coming years.
As part of the event, Prof S Swaminathan of Sastra Deemed University was conferred with Dr C N R Rao sponsored award for achievement in the field of nanotechnology.
Addressing the occasion, Prof Swaminathan said, nano-technology has pervaded all branches of science and technology.
Union Minister of State for IT/BT Rajeev Chandra Shekhar in his recorded speech, said the entire world was looking for eventful partnerships in the technological sphere, especially in the post-Covid times and sunrise industry such as nano-technology would create huge opportunities for India in the global scenario.
Dr E V Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Electronics, IT/BT and S&T, A B Basavaraju, Managing Director, Karnataka State Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) were present.
The Chief Minister later launched the trade fair organized at Vidhana Soudha as part of the International Women’s Day 2022.
