Bengaluru: Drugs worth Rs 40 lac hidden in ancient wall clock confiscated by DRI

Bengaluru, Mar 7: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated drugs worth Rs 40 lac (half kg of amphetamine) and imported cigarettes worth Rs 6 crore that were hidden in an ancient wall clock of Kempegowda International Airport in the city.

The container that was arriving at Tuticorin was confiscated by DRI after a tip off.

Amphetamine was intended to be shipped to Saudi Arabia. It was powdered and hidden in the ancient wall clock. Reliable sources informed that they have stopped despatches in the courier collection centre from March 4.

Booking is done on fictitious names and addresses from Bengaluru. A case under narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances prevention is registered.

In another incident and the highest haul so far, a huge amount of cigarettes was confiscated from the Bengaluru unit. These were being shipped to Tuticorin in a container from Dubai. The total value of these is said to be Rs 4 lac. A case under Customs Act has been registered.
