Udupi: MIT-FOA Faculty Club celebrates International Women’s Day

Udupi, Mar 12: The International Women’s Day Celebrations were organized by MIT-FOA Faculty Club at the MIT Library Auditorium on March 8.

On this occasion MIT-FOA Faculty Club felicitated Tanula Tarun to honour and recognize her contributions to the social welfare of orphans, old and unprivileged people. She was presented with a token of appreciation. The felicitation was done by the president Dr(Cdr) Anil Rana, vice-president Dr Somashekara Bhat and secretary of faculty club Dr K Arathi Bhat along with director of MSAP Dr N Ramadevi and Shikha Rana.

Tanula Tarun runs an organization called Hosabelaku Ashrama in Manipal. The Ashrama takes care of orphans and the poor. It tries to restore life into these unprivileged people. The Ashrama takes care of 68 unprivileged people. They also care for the orphaned and injured cattle too. In addition, they also have a free ambulance to service of the people of Udupi.

Tanula Tarun also runs environment awareness activities, free food distribution and is actively involved in various social activities. She also conducts an Ashram for the unprivileged in Saralabettu.

After the felicitation, the president Dr(Cdr) Anil Rana and vice-president Dr Somashekara Bhat expressed their appreciation for her exemplary contribution to social services.

Speaking on the occasion of the felicitation the president of the faculty club Dr(Cdr) Anil Rana said, “We are extremely honoured to recognise Tanula Tarun for her immense contribution to the development of the poor and the underprivileged in the region. She is an inspiration to us all with her dedication to help relieve people’s suffering and help them lead a life of dignity in the community”

Vice-president of the club Dr Somashekara Bhat said, “Social workers like Ms Tanula provide a safe space for the vulnerable and the oppressed in the society, her work in the Hosabelaku Ashrama is truly admirable. It is our privilege to felicitate her on the occasion of International Women’s Day”.

The event also included a guest talk by Garima Vishal, an alumni of Manipal Institute of Technology and director of Dejawoo School of Innovation, Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Dejawoo School of Innovation was founded in 2014. The aim of the school is to educate under privileged children with an education system that is different from the one that is currently being followed in the country. The school has got national recognition by Zee media, print media like Hindustan, Prabhat Khabar, Dainik Jagran etc, due to its recommendable ways of teaching and training teachers. The school works on a 3-pillar model pillars being students, teachers and mothers for 360 degree development of children.

An MBA graduate from IIM Lucknow, Garima worked in Infosys for about four years and thereafter at an American consultancy firm. Through these years, parallelly, she kept teaching underprivileged kids.

Garima Vishal, gave the guest talk by joining online mode. She gave an inspiring speech on her journey from MIT to the present. She was addressed by the president of the faculty club at the end of her talk.
