Beltangady, Mar 23: Tests conducted by the fisheries college has confirmed that the death of thousands of fishes in Guruvayanakere lake all of a sudden on March 14 was caused by the fact that effluents got mixed with the lake water. The tests confirmed that no poisoning of the water had taken place as suspected by some people.

Thousands of fishes, including those which were being raised in the lake, had died en masse all of a sudden. The dead fish were removed and about two tonnes of fish had to be destroyed in an operation conducted later. Samples of the water, dead fish and soil had been sent to the fisheries college for testing.
