Chamarajanagar: Padhna Likhna Abhiyan - School kids caught proxying for neo-literates in exam

Chamarajanagar, Mar 28: The department of education has been pursuing the Padna Likhna Abhiyan with a target of making India cent percent literate by the year 2030. There are allegations that in this district, false records were created to show that 3,0048 persons who were illiterates, were given training and made literate.

For being recognized as literates, the grown ups who have newly learnt how to read and write, should have appeared for the examination to show that they now know how to read and write. But instead of them, the school children were brought to answer the question papers. It is said that lists of persons were made in various corners of the district and fake records were created to show that they now know how to read and write.

On Sunday, an examination was conducted for the neo-literates. Instead of the grown ups, school children were brought in their place and made to write the examination. When the children were writing the examination in Mariyaka Government Higher Primary School in Chamarajanagar, the media persons caught them red-handed. At the sight of the journalists, the children aran away. In some places, midday meal staff or educated youth were made to write the examination. In some centres, question papers were not distributed even in the afternoon.

A teacher by profession, Susheela, said that as per instructions, the teachers had conducted door to door visits and made a list of illiterates. She said she had fought with the headmaster as it was not right for someone else to appear for the examination on behalf of others as it becomes impersonation. This appears to be a large scale scam and people want a detailed investigation to find out what is actually happening.
