Kundapur, Apr 2: Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for social welfare and welfare of backward communities said that chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has agreed to restart all the pro-people schemes and projects of social welfare and backward communities department, which were stalled for the past two years due to Covid.

Poojary spoke at the meeting that was held on Friday with officers of social welfare, revenue and other departments at the tourist bungalow here.

Giving details, Poojary said, “Rs 6.74 crore is released for 32 community centres. As announced in state budget, four residential schools in the name of Narayana Guru will be established in Shivamogga, Udupi, Mangaluru and Uttara Kannada districts.”

Minister Poojary also said that he is thinking of founding a school under Kundapur legislative constituency, as suggested by Halady Srinivasa Shetty.

“As there was some confusion with regards to Siddapur residential school, one officer has to be transferred. Now the responsibility is given to someone else. Now action is taken to resolve the issue. I have already spoken to advocate general. Within next week, depending on the availability of MLA, foundation stone will be laid. As we have received proposals from some people that Ramakshatriya and Hindukshatriya are same and they should be declared as Ramakshatriya, study on the same will be done and final outcome will be announced by the commission or department,” said Poojary.

Concluding the press conference, Poojary said, “Approval is given to open 21 sainik schools in the name of freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna. One sainik school will be established in the building built through our department at a cost of Rs 180 crore. Action will be taken to start this school before the end of this month with the participation of union government. Rs 122.5 crore is deposited directly into the community centre maintenance accounts meant for 800 backward community centres across the state.”

Kundapur sub-divisional officer Raju K, tahsildar Kiran Goraiah, personal assistant of minister Harish Shetty, Devendra Biaradar of social welfare department, Dhood Peer, Raghavendra Varnikar and Ganesh Nayak were present.
