Bantwal, Apr 9: Bantwal block Congress, Panemangalore block Congress, Bantwal block Mahila Congress and Youth Congress staged joint protests in the leadership of former minister B Ramanath Rai under B C Road flyover on April 9 against the steep rise in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.

Rai addressing the protesters said that cheating people in the name of religion is the habit of BJP when the elections approach. “Selling government owned companies to the private capitalists is the only achievement of BJP,” he said.

“While Congress works for the progress of the poor, BJP exists only for votes. The prices of petroleum products decreased during elections. But currently they are increasing steeply. The lives of poor people are angered by price rises. There is no government in the state that protects the welfare of people. The BJP government is hitting the stomachs of farmers. All groups of people including construction workers are troubled. The government that cannot do what is promised is trying to divert the attention of people towards unnecessary matters to hide their shortcomings. Unemployment problem is rampant,” he lambasted.

“Commission was not collected from contractors during the term of Ramanath Rai. But we will know the amount of commission currently being collected from contractors when we ask the contractors,” he said.

Bantwal block Congress president Baby Kunder, Panemangalore block Congress president Sudeep Kumar Shetty, Subhaschandra Shetty, Sampath Kumar Shetty, Lokesh Suvarna, Aida Suresh, Jacinta D’ Souza, M S Mohammed, Abbas Ali, Venkappa Poojary, Mohammed Shafi, Vasu Poojary, Mayilappa Salian, Suresh Poojary, Nawaz Sharif, Girish Perva, Janardhan Chandtimar, Adam Kunhi, Gangadhar Poojary, Padmanabha Rai, Balakrishna Alva, Padma Shekhar Jain, Lavina Vilma, Chandraprakash Shetty, Chandrashekar Poojary and Lolaksha Shetty were present.
