Udupi: Horse Trading Threat – Bagalkot ZP Members on Pilgrimage

Udupi, Feb 3: Bagalkot district BJP Unit had organized visits of temples located in Karnataka coast for  the Bagalkot zilla panchayat (ZP) members elected on its symbol. 17 BJP ZP members visited the coast on Wednesday, not only to get boons from the deities, but also to avoid getting enamoured by the lure of power, position or money in their native district.

The election for Bagalkot ZP president and vice-president is to be held today. All the 15 women BJP members and two men, arrived in the town in a private vehicle on Tuesday night. They stayed in a hotel and had the darshan of Lord Srikrishna here on Wednesday, before returning.

In the 32-member-strong Bagalkot ZP, BJP has 17 members, Congress has 14, and there is an independent member too. The BJP is worried, that if it loses a single member to the conspiracy of the Congress, its chance hangs in balance, and if two opt to change sides, it will lose power.

The pilgrimage was arranged to keep the flock united. The members, when contacted, said that they had come here to pay obeisance to the gods here, to get divine support for giving a good administration, and that the choice of president and vice-president has been left to the discretion of senior party leaders.
