Yeddy Annouces Rs 25 Cr 'Thayi Bhuvaneshwari' Grand Idol in Bangalore

Yeddy Annouces Rs 25 Cr 'Thayi Bhuvaneshwari' Grand Idol in Bangalore

Bangalore,Feb4 (PTI) : Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today announced a special fund to encourage litterateurs and setting up of a Rs 25 crore idol with potential to become a Bangalore landmark.

Yeddyurappa said he would set aside Rs ten crore in the annual budget, to be unveiled this month, for the benefit of litterateurs in financial need and also encourage authors to publish their first book.

The scheme would be implemented through the Kannada Sahitya Parishath, he said, addressing the inaugural function of the 77th "Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana" (All India Kannada Literary conference).

The Chief Minister also said a mega idol of "Thayi Bhuvaneshwari", the native goddess of Karnataka, would be established here at a cost of Rs 25 crore and work on it would begin in April.

This idol would be built on a grand scale similar to "Statue of Liberty" in New York and Budhha statue in Lumbini park in Hyderabad, he said, adding, it would emerge as a must-see attraction for those visiting Bangalore.

President of the Sammelana, G Venkatasubbaiah, made an appeal to preserve and promote Kannada language, before an enthusiastic throng of hundreds of delegates at National College grouds, where the three-day meet commenced.

Venkatasubbaiah, a well-known Kannada lexicographer, appealed to the State Government to make Kannada a compulsory first language in schools from first to tenth standard.

He advocated using Kannada in all applications in Government offices, and their rejection if given in other languages. "Officials who don't follow this must be punished".

Kannadigas have dwindled to 30 per cent in Bangalore population, Venkatasubbaiah said and urged industry houses employing non-Kannadigas here to promote the local language among the staff.

He appealed to the Government to extend the "Yashaswini" insurance scheme, meant for people below the poverty line, to litterateurs as well.

Outgoing President of the Sammelana, Geeta Nagabhushana, stressed the need for making more women to head such a conference, noting that only four women had become President in the history of the event.

She also said rural folk and farmers, who play a key role in usage and promotion of Kannada, are migrating because of poor economic conditions, putting the language to jeopardy.

To counter this, there is a need to generate large-scale employment in rural areas, she said. The venue of the meet, an annual get-together of litterateurs, poets and lovers of the language, wore a festive look. It is being held here after a gap of 40 years.

25 crores is a pretty good amount to keep hundreds of poor out of poverty, enough to educate Thousands of backward illiterate children, enough to provide hundreds of villages with pure drinking water facilities. But you may oppose my views that I am against protecting the ancient culture and tradition. Of course my views are not against preserving any culture or tradition. Preservence of a culture is must for a state or country to retain it's identity. However It should not be on the cost of poor's life. Do you think that Thai Bhuvaneshwari will be pleased by establishing her Idol at this whooping cost while many of her children are dying with hunger and thirsty. If Mr. yeddy thinks that he can overcome all hurdles of his political career by investing such huge amount on such non humanitarian mission, It will be his ignorance about God and his love towards his creature. If he really wants to please any god, let him do such a deed where a common man can be benefited. It seems that he has forgot the old saying "Jana Seveye Janardhana Seve".

Fly Ash generated by UPCL and the miseries of the people living around Padubidri is heart rendering especially little children who have to wear a mask to go to school.
Yedurappa, do something for these people and a 25 cr. idol is not the need of the hour.
God will equally bless you if you spend that money judiciously.

Yeddi is a total failure leader of Karnataka. Zero leadership skills and knowledge which is create greate damage to public. Time to kick him out in a Egypt way if he doesn't resigh. In his leadership unwanted , expected things happend namely murders, communal attacks, rapes, scams, black magics storeis, pub attacks in a political manners, moral policin like Taliban ways what not. Yeddi please give chance to other educated people to run the state rather running in jungli way. Veerappanna was a better leader in the jungles than you finanlly he died. You create hatred in public and you will die in the jail soon,. When people cry from inside that's more than enough worst than black magic. wait for your time to see the results

Mr. C.M. Your so called generous announcement of Rs.25 Cr. 'Thayi Bhuvaneshwari" Grand Idol is a good gesture but at what cost?. People in some areas have no proper food and shelter. This money could have been diverted for helping the poor. Again in a secular country are you also offering such gifts to Mosques and Churches.

It is time that realization comes to people in high offices to prioritize the concepts instead of wasting precious money.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak, is god really in need of our money??. Since the existance of Karnataka, "Thayi Bhuvaneshwari is comfortable in what she has. She never demanded any temple or Idol of her to be erected. So how come the person known to be chief minister all of sudden got divine message to establish a statue for her??. Every where it's a common belief that God provides every thing to his disciples. But In India it is in reverse. Man has to give every thing to  god. What type of philosophy is this which I am still trying to find out.

Very good initiative CM sir. We must work for our beloved state language, sweet Kannada. Please take initiative to create employment opportunities for Kannadigas. With regard to erection of 25 Cr. statue, need of the hour is taking care of our farmers' grieviences and not competing with Statue of Liberty.

Instead of erecting the statue, use the same money for the development of the state. Reduce the electricity bill, education cost, provide some funds for hospitals which are serving the humanity. May God enlighten Yedioorappa to use the funds in right way!

This is  a lifetime blunder by our  chief minister. He is misusing people's money for his private and personal desires. Our country and state cannot afford such a huge unproductive expense. If he really wanted a statue he could have done it with his own funds which run into thousands of crores. I wonder how rest of the ministers and people of Karnataka watch this nonsense in silence?
