Udupi, Apr 18: Food and Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has recognized the BHOG (Blissful Hygienic Offering to God) of Kollur Sri Mookambika temple, one of the renowned and richest temples, as of highest quality.
FSSAI officials inspected the quality of food that is being prepared in the temple. They checked the good preparation building cleanliness, facilities, method of preparing food and training of staff.
Dr Premanand, district food and quality control officer says, “The authority confirmed on all aspects like well-equipped kitchen, system to prevent roof leaking during monsoon, non-slippery floor, windows and doors free from rust, good quality of utensils used for preparation of food, excellent ventilation and light, machines to make the food hot and cold, well maintained store room to preserve food, proper waste disposal system and good quality of water.”
Temple administrative committee says, “Food items are purchased from only suppliers who have certificate from Food Safety organization. Cleanliness is maintained in vehicles carrying food items. Periodical sanitisation and pesticides are used to prevent attack of worms and insects. Training is given to people who handle and prepare food. Strict instructions are given to staff who are not well not to enter kitchen. If the food is surplus, it is handled suitably. Oil that is used for frying is not reused at all.”
Dr Premanand says that periodical inspection is done to ensure that the BHOG given to devotees of the temple is of highest standard.
