Mangalore: Golden Chariot for Kateel Temple in Final Phase

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Feb 15: The golden chariot, being made for Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, is in the final stages of making. The chariot, which is 14 ft high, has been made from teakwood, and then covered with silver plates. In the final stage, 12 kgs of golden layer would be provided to the chariot.

Sources in the temple said that Swarna Jewellers Udupi has been entrusted with the task of making this chariot.

About seven kilograms of gold, and Rs 1.7 crore in cash, has come to the temple in the form of donations from devotees for the purpose. The wood work of the new chariot itself has cost nearly ten lac rupees. The wood for the base and the wheels have been made of the wood quality specified in the ancient scriptures, the sources added.

Harinarayana Asranna, priest of the above temple, said that high quality steering, nuts, and bolts have been used for the new chariot. As there are no auspicious dates for its inauguration during the car festival to be held in near future, the new chariot will be dedicated to the Goddess during the next Deepavali festival, he informed.

PLease widen the roads leading to Kateel. The authorities and devotees are ready to spend crores on temples but not interested to develop the roads. The people face high risk every moment on these roads. What is the point in spending crores on temples if roads are just 16 feet wide.
