Mangaluru: Saffron Warrior beats Tulunada Tigers to win MLA Premier League title

Mangaluru May 30: Saffron Warrior (Mulki Moodabidiri constituency) owned by MLA Umanath Kotian emerged champions while Tulunada Tigers ( Mangaluru North constituency owned by MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty) bagged the runners-up, at the two-day over arm cricket tournament titled ‘MLA Premiere League' held on May 28 and 29 at the Sahyadri College ground.

The cricket tournament was organised by Sankalp foundation in association with Mangalore youths.

A total of eight teams from eight constituencies took part in the tournament. They are: Lotus Kings XI Puttur (Puttur constituency owned by MLA Sanjeev Matandoor), Saffron Warriors (Mulki Moodabidiri constituency owned by MLA Umanath Kotian), Tulunada Warriors Kudla (Mangaluru South constituency owned by MLA Vedavyas Kamath), Shramika Strikers Belthangady ( Belthangady constituency owned by MLA Harish Poonja), Kamala Risers Bantwal (Bantwal constituency owned by MLA Rajesh Naik), Tulunada Tigers (Mangaluru North constituency owned by MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty), Lotus XI Sullia (Sullia constituency owned by MLA S Angara) and Abbakka Soldiers (Ullal constituency owned by MLA U T Khader).

Gowrish from Saffron Warriors was Man of the Match in the finals, while Harish was the best batsman from Tulunada Warriors. Vedanth from Tulunada Warriors was the best bowler and Shravan was the best fielder from Kamala Risers. Vitesh from Tulunada Tigers was Man of the Series.

Sankalp foundation was the brain child behind the success of over arm cricket tournament. Sankalp Foundation was founded two years ago by Kiran Kumar Kodical, Varun Chowta, Bharath Raj Krishna and Lohith Amin. Sankalp Foundation in the last two years was working relentlessly in helping the needy.

The foundation planned to host a cricket tournament MLA Premiere league that would widely reach all the eight constituencies of the district. At the same time, the tournament was planned to encourage the youths to showcase their talents at higher platforms which was the motive behind organising cricket tournament by Sankalp Foundation.
