Udupi May 31: 'Azadi ka Amrith Mahotsav’ event organized by district administration was inaugurated at Atal Bihari Vajpayee stadium here in Manipal on Tuesday May 31.

'Azadi ka Amrith Mahotsav’ is an initiative of the government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Independence. Garib Kalyan Sammelan was screened at the stadium for public to raise awareness among them.

Shobha Karandlaje, union minister of State for Agriculture and farmers’ Welfare after the inauguration said, “The programmes of the government should reach the last person in the society. There are more middle class people. The programmes are designed without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion.

“Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi aims to strengthen India through ‘Make in India’ and become an independent country in all ways. The state government has to speed up its activities to match the union government.

“PM Modi is also thinking on doubling the farmers’ income. A District Agricultural Plan (DAP) should be prepared for the betterment of farmers and his products should get a good market. Likewise, a plan should ready for the betterment of fisheries.

“We have invested huge money on large scale industries. India is an agricultural based country. Modi kept believing in agriculture. He decided to strengthening farmers and reform the agricultural system. Hence, he has formed many farmer-friendly schemes to boost agriculture,” she said.

She interacted with the government programmes’ beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries expressed their opinion on 13 various government schemes like Pradhan Manthri Awaz Yojana, Ujwala scheme Mathruvandana scheme, Ayushman Bharath, Poshan Abhiyan and others.

Raghupathi Bhat, MLA Udupi, Kurma Rao, deputy commissioner, Prasanna H, CEO, zilla panchayat Udupi, Sumithra Nayak, president, City Municipality Council, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, president, Coastal development authority and others were present.
