Mangaluru: DC instructs all buses to display route boards in Kannada

Mangaluru, Jun 4: Strict instructions were given to display all name boards and route boards on buses plying in the district in Kannada language by deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V in the meeting of Kannada Development authority that was presided over by the DC in the month of April.

In view of the order of DC, secretary of Dakshina Kannada district regional transport authority, in a publication, has informed to write all name plates and route boards mandatorily in Kannada language.

    Also write, only kannadigas can travel on these buses. State Govt wants FIIs to invest in the state, then how they will read the bus routes?

    Instead of instructing bus/lorry drivers to discontinue loud horns and speeding, the DC is after the display route boards. Wrong priorities.

    If you drive through Mangalore one can see many sign boards prominently displaying the names in English and Malayalam with Kannada a distant third in small letters or altogether dropping Kannada. Why the Corporation is not ensuring prominence to Kannada?
