Kundapur, Jun 25: An inscription belonging to the Shaivites has been found on the brass pole of Basru Mahathobara Sri Mahalingeshwara temple.
The inscription is found on the pole that is around 500 years old. The text says that 85.84 kg of brass is used for the inscription.
The first strip of the inscription has Kurma avatar of Lord Vishnu. On the top is the picture of elephant carried by the tortoise.
The second strip elephant is seen in the east direction and one can see the axe in a hand of a warrior. The warrior is sitting behind the elephant.
In the third strip, the Moodu Ganapati is said to be belonging to about 15 to 16 century AD according to history researcher Dr P Gururaja Bhat. In the fourth part, a sculpture with folding hands in namaskar style is seen.
The inscription mentions that nine quintals of rice was donated as Naivedya to Lord Nakareshwara on August 11, 1400.
Special type of lamp decoration can be seen on the inscription.
The brass inscription was detected by Pradeep Kumar Basrur, district convener of Indian History Committee Karnataka Udupi. He was assisted by Ajay Kumar Sharma Shivamogga, Dr Ravi Kumar Navalagunda, Mahesh Kini Basrur, Madhusudhan Bhat and Shashikant S K.
