Eastern Railway Earning Up 3.31 Percent


Kolkata, Mar 22 (IANS): The Eastern Railway (ER) has succeeded in increasing its earnings from passenger and freight traffic by 3.31 percent in the first 11 months of this fiscal as compared to the corresponding period in 2009-10.

"The ER has earned Rs.4,364.25 crore during the period from April 2010 to February 2011 as against Rs.4,224.50 crore earned during the period between April, 2009 and February, 2010. It is an increase of 3.31 percent in total earning this year in compare to previous year," said an statement.

The ER has earned Rs.2,876.28 crore from goods traffic, Rs.1,296.63 crore from passenger traffic, Rs.140.76 crore from other coaching and Rs.50.58 crore from sundry earning.

The ER carried 101.48 crore passengers from April 2010 to February 2011 as against 92.46 crore during the corresponding period in the previous year.
