Bengaluru, Aug 1: Five months are over since the students who had gone for Ukraine to study medical science have returned to India due to the war between Ukraine and Russia. As the union government is not giving any priority to their plight, their future is in dark.
Most of the students are willing to go back to Ukraine and continue their studies. But as the war is still in progress, they are uncertain about the next step to be taken.
Indian students from Ukraine
There are around 650 Ukraine-returned medical students in Karnataka. They have appeared for second, fourth and sixth semester examination through online in the month of April and May. They have also given practical examinations at the medical colleges where they reside. This facility was given at JSS college of Mysuru, KLE of Belagavi and other colleges.
Kharkiv University assured the students of holding third semester classes through offline from September. However, the parents are concerned as the war is not yet over. They are thinking of alternatives to educate their children in countries other than India and Ukraine.
So far the students who returned thought that the union government will help them in some manner. Now as the government has left them to fend for themselves, the students who have just completed one year in Ukraine are showing interest in taking up NEET exam for next year in India itself. Some are even thinking of taking up engineering or law courses.
